JONAH 1

I usually read more than one chapter at a time, but this one made me pause and think. God asked - no, TOLD Jonah to do something, and he purposefully disobeyed, heading in the opposite direction. His disobedience not only brought consequences to himself, but to innocent bystanders, his shipmates, who faced the possibility of shipwreck and drowning.

Normalmente leo más que un capítulo, pero esto me hacía pausar y pensar. Dios pedía - no, MANDABA a Jonás que hacer algo, y el deliberadamente desobedecía, se rumbaba a otra dirección . Su desobediencia no solo traía consecuencias a él mismo, pero a circunstantes inocentes, sus compañeros de abordo, que se enfrentaban de la posibilidad de naufragio y ahogar.

In his favor, he DID confess to them that he was the reason the storm had risen up. But he still preferred himself to be thrown overboard and drowned rather than obey God.
But God had other plans.
And recall how Jesus said that Jonah was a sign - the three days and three nights in the belly of the fish.
Jonah was there because of his own sin and disobedience. Jesus was in the belly of the earth for OUR sin and disobedience.

A su favor, él sí les confesó que él era la razón que se había levantado la tormenta. Pero todavía prefería que él mismo se echara por la borda y ahogara en vez de obedecer a Dios.Pero Dios tenía otros planes.
Y recuerda que Jesús dijo que Jonás era una señal - los tres días y noches en el vientre del pez.
Jonás estaba allá por su propio pecado y desobediencia.
Jesús estaba en el vientre de la tierra por el pecado y desobediencia NUESTRO.

But it made me think how our actions affect not only ourselves, but those around us. Sometimes we argue that we're not hurting anyone else, but it just ain't so. We are connected. Even in the matter of overeating - if I put on so much weight that I can't perform my normal activities - someone has to take up the slack. And if it affects my health - someone pays for it.

Pero me ponía pensar en cómo nuestras acciones afectan no sólo  a nosotros mismos, pero también a aquellos circunstantes. A veces discutamos que no dolemos a nadie, pero no es así. Estamos conectados. Aún en el asunto de
comer en exceso - si subo tanto peso que no puedo hacer las actividades normales - otra persona tiene que compensar por mi flojedad. Y si afecta mi salud - alguien lo paga.

"If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it" (I Cor. 12:26) This is true in the sense of the body, and the Body of Christ; but also in a much broader sense. We need to rise up out of our self-centered selfishness. We need to be more like Christ.

"Si uno de los miembros sufre, los demás comparten su sufrimiento" (I Cor. 12:26) Esto es la verdad en el sentido del cuerpo, y el Cuerpo de Cristo; pero también en un sentido más grande. Necesitamos levantarnos desde nuestro egoísmo egocéntrico. Necesitamos ser más como Cristo.
